Cut Out + Keep

Green Tea Heart Cupcakes

Light, fluffy & cute!

I actually got the original idea from Mommy's Little Maniac's tutorial and set off to attempt my own version. It was entirely experimental--I modified a simple, plain cake mix recipe and went on from there. The flavor is light, with a hint of green tea--more like green tea muffins. Recipe makes 10. If you want a stronger green tea flavor, try adding 1-2 more tea bags to the mix. It would be perfect for St. Patrick's Day! Try making a four-leaf clover stencil instead of a heart. Edit: Some of the stuff I put in the tutorial didn't show up (additional pictures, some ingredient details) for some weird reason. The pictures are fixed, but for the "milk" ingredient, it should be 1 tbsp (it won't fix it for some reason). Sorry for the confusion!

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

  2. Small 004 1268470699

Soften butter. It's easier to melt in the microwave in short increments, just don't make it too hot!

  3. Small 005 1268470631

Measure and whisk in the following one at a time: sugar, milk, eggs, vanilla extract, flour.

  4. Small 008 1268470895

Cut open tea bags and add to mix. Add 1-2 more bags or green tea powder if you'd like a stronger tea flavor. Optional: add green food coloring until the batter reaches desired shade.

  5. Small 009 1268471184

Spoon batter about 3/4 into cupcake liners in a muffin baking tray. Bake at 400 degrees for about 16-18 minutes. They should be puffy on top. Let cool before decorating.

  6. Small 011 1268471293

Cut out a tiny heart shape from a piece of paper (or any shape, if you prefer) and set on top of a cupcake.

  7. Small 014 1268471359

Spoon some powdered sugar into a sifter and lightly tap to sprinkle the sugar over the stencil. Carefully remove heart stencil shake off any excess sugar. Use this method to decorate the remaining cupcakes.
