Description

Bust into the room like an axe-wielding Carrie Nation and make your declarative statement. Embroider this axe and whimsical saying onto a kitchen towel, or other embroidery medium.

Instructions

  1. Print and cut out paper pattern piece (scale to desired size) and trace onto your towel of choice using a water-soluble tracing pen.

  2. Put your towel in an embroidery hoop to hold stitches tight.

Words: Use the backstitch (shown) and 3 strands of pink thread to stitch your words. Instead of tying off knots on the back of your stitch, try to tuck the tail of your thread underneath the next stitch.

Axe: Handle: Outline the handle using a backstitch or chain stitch.

Use a satin stitch to fill in the handle, stitching on the outside of the outline.

Blade: Outline the blade in dark grey using the backstitch or chain stitch. Use a shading stitch to progressively fill in the axe, starting with the dark grey and finishing with the light grey tip of the blade. Stich OVER the outside of the outline, using the outline as your guide.

Daisies: Use the French knot (shown) to embroider the center of your daisies.

For the daisy petals, use a lazy daisy stitch: Start at the base of the petal and pull your thread through, making a loop the size of the petal and re-inserting your thread close to your initial hole. With the loop still slack, make a small stitch at the top of the daisy over the thread to hold the petal shape.
