Description

The Glasgow Rose can be seen all over the city. It is a strong geometric design which lends itself to using in craft.

Instructions

  1. Cut some squares of felt into slightly larger than the size you want the coaster to be.

Draw on the felt the outline of the shapes to create the Glasgow Rose shape. You can find lots of images of the shape online.

  3. Small 114117 2f2016 04 30 202613 image

Melt the wax in a pan or melt pot. Fill in the sections that you don't want coloured with the wax and a paintbrush. In this case it is the outline we will be painting so fill in the petal shapes. Make sure the wax penetrates into the fabric.

The wax will dry really quickly so you can paint straight away. Paint in the uncovered spaces with fabric paint. I didn't worry about the outside edge as I am cutting the whole thing down to a circle so this will be neatened then.

Leave the pieces until the are completely dry.

Place brown paper over the felt pieces and iron. This will melt the wax and the brown paper will soak it up. Keep ironing it with the brown paper until wax is no longer appearing on the paper. This should also set the fabric paint.

Cut the pieces into a circle.

Add a backing of another colour of felt with fabric glue.
