My version of the character Gir from Invader Zim :)
Gir's body is made from lime green polar fleece and his eyes, nose, tongue, ears, arms and legs are felt. The zip on his front is made from a piece of chain. I do not own any copyright rights or anything, I just happen to like this character and created my own version. Please forgive me for any pattern mistakes and my lack for photos: this is my first how-to!

  • Step 1

    Cut out your pattern pieces:
    The head pieces (front/back, sides, top and bottom) and body must be cut from lime green polar fleece/felt/chosen fabric and the ears, arms and legs must be cut from black felt. The bottom of the head is a 6cm x 2cm rectangle. not shown on the pattern. Also, I don't use any set seam allowance, I just sew - the pattern is just the sizes of the pieces I used. The pattern was on an A4 piece of paper and produced a Gir of +- 26 cm. This was my first time making a pattern, so, please, forgive me for any mess ups and if the pieces aren't the exact correct size :)

  • Step 2

    You should now have:
    from green;
    2 head pieces (front and back)
    2 sides of head
    1 top of head
    1 bottom of head (6cm x 2cm)
    2 body pieces

    from black;
    2 arms
    2 legs
    2 ears

    Take one of your head pieces (the one you are using for the front of the face) and decorate the face. I used a sewing machine to stitch the mouth and stitched the vertical stitches by hand, but what expression you choose to create is up to you.

  • Step 3

    After creating your face, sew the two sides to either side of the face (wider part at the top of the head, thinner part at bottom) and then sew on the top, back and bottom. Stuff the head and sew closed.

  • Step 4

    For the body: you can choose whether to sew on the chain for the zip before or after stuffing and sewing - I did it afterwards. Sew the two body pieces together, stuff and close by sewing along the top. Sew on your chain, and, if you want, add a bead at the top to look like a zipper-pull. Sew the body to the bottom of the head and secure.

  • Step 5

    Okay, ears. Take one ear piece and fold in half vertically. Sew around the outside, leaving the bottom open. Attach to head. I attached these by sewing them on by hand with the bottom stretched out, if that makes any sense at all, to get them to stand up and not flop over. Repeat with other ear/

  • Step 6

    Arms and legs are done using the same method as the ears: Take an arm piece and fold it in half to create a sort of tear-drop shape. Sew around outside and attach to body. Repeat for other arm, and then both legs.

  • Step 7

    And you're done! Hope this was easy enough to follow :)
