Cut a 42cm diameter disc from each sheet of card. Find the centre point. With paper scissors, cut a rough spiral shape starting at the outer edge and working into the middle. Keep the lines of the spiral between 10cm and 14cm apart, but it is fine to have a slight wave to the edges.
Cut a small hole in the very centre of the spiral. Feed your light bulb through this central hole in the card spiral. With the first section of the card spiral, form a cone around the bulb and staple to secure, avoiding all wires.
Continue spiralling the card around the bulb. Staple the shade at further points to secure, twisting and tightening as you go.
Repeat for each rose, alternating between red and white card. For greater impact, make more than one string of lights.
