Description

I found this receipe years ago online, but over the years we have mixed and changed it to make it more to our tastes! This bread is delicious and only takes about 1 1/2 hours to make!

Instructions

  1. First this recipe is designed to be adjusted to your tastebuds. You can make this 100% whole wheat or substitute the wheat flour for bread flour for a whiter bread. Adjust seasonings to taste as well!

  2. In a bowl mix 1 1/2 cups of Wheat Flour, 1 1/2 cups of Unbleached all purpose Flour, with 1 1/2 tsp salt. Create a well in the flour and add 1 tbsp of Sugar and one package of instant yeast. Add 1 1/3 cups of the hottest tap water you can get, slowly to the top of yeast sugar mix. Let the mix sit for 5 minutes while the yeast activates.

  3. Add 1 tbsp of Garlic Oil (purchase at the store or make your own) or Extra Virgin Olive Oil, to the mix stir until it starts to form.

  4. This is the time to add all your extras you want deep in the dough. I use the frozen garlic cubes from Trader Joe's, but if you don't have the frozen garlic, you can add minced or fresh cut garlic. I love garlic so I add 4-6 cloves, but it is to your tastes use as much or little as you like. You can also add cheese, I like Parmessan, but I know people who do jack or cheddar with Jalapeno Peppers. Also add 1-2 tbsp of granulated garlic, any dried herbs you like, again to taste!

  5. Drop the dough out onto a heavily floured surface. Knead until a nice ball forms. Add a 1/2 tsp oil to the bowl, oil the dough ball, cover with a towel and allow it to rise until doubled approx 30 minutes.

  6. Punch down the dough. Oil a baking sheet and lay out the dough. Spread the dough until it is approx. 3/4 inch thick. Take the last tsp of oil and add to the top of the dough. Coat top. Now add all of the crust extras you would like. You can use Sea Salt, Rosemary, Granulated Garlic, Cheese, what ever matches the flavors inside your bread.

  7. Place a bowl of hot water at the bottom of a cool oven. Place the bread inside and let it rise for another 20 minutes.

  8. Remove the bowl of water and turn on the oven. Bake at 375 for approx 20 minutes, or until golden brown (wheat bread will look darker when done). Take out and allow to cool.

  9. This bread is amazing! Use it for sandwiches, dipping or even to make pizza. Again have fun with it, there is a lot you can do with it make it your own!

This is half the bread, we couldn't wait! It's topped with Rosemary, Garlic and Parmesan Cheese. Inside is garlic and cheese.
