Doll is made from 7 pieces: Body, Head, Babushka Scarf, Scarf Bow, and 3 Flowers. All pieces are sewn together, and embroidery applied to complete Doll.

  • Bulky-weight Yarn (acrylic and wool blend) in ecru, 12 yds (7 g)
  • Bulky-weight Yarn (acrylic and wool blend) in light brown, 2 yds (1 g)
  • Light-weight Yarn (wool) in green, blue, red/purple, and lime, 4 yds (1 g) each • Light-weight yarn (wool) in red, small amount
  • Toy Stuffing
  • Two black Button(s) or safety eyes, 1⁄4 in (6 mm) diameter

Steps (6 steps, 120 minutes)

  1. 1

    Body

    With larger hook and body color (blue, pink, or green), use the crochet-in-the-round method to make a center ring.
    Round 1 (right side): Ch 1, 7 sc in ring; join with sl st in first st—7 sc.
    Round 2: Ch 1, sc inc in each st around; join with sl st in first st—14 sc.
    Round 3: Ch 1, sc in each st round; join with sl st in first st.
    Round 4: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, sc inc in next st, *sc in next st, sc inc in next st; repeat from * around; join with sl st in first st—21 sc.
    Rounds 5 and 6: Ch 1, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first st.
    Round 7: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining and in next 3 sts, sc inc in next st, [sc in next 4 st, sc inc in next st] 3 times, sc in last st; join with sl st in first st—25 sc.
    Rounds 8–10: Ch 1, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first st.
    Round 11: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining and in next 2 sts, sc2tog, *sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog; repeat from * around; join with sl st in first st—20 sc.
    Round 12: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining and in next 4 sts, sc2tog, sc in next 5 sts, sc2tog, sc in next 4 sts, sc2tog—17 sc.
    Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing Head to Body. Stuff body firmly.

    Head
    With larger hook and beige, use the crochet-in-the-round method to make a center ring.
    Round 1 (right side): Ch 1, 6 sc in ring; join with sl st in first st—6 sc. Round 2: Ch 1, sc inc in each st around; join with sl st in first st—12 sc.
    Round 3: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, sc inc in next st, *sc in next st, sc inc in next st; repeat from * around; join with sl st in first st—18 sc.
    Rounds 4–6: Ch 1, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first st.
    Attach buttons (with sewing thread and needle) or safety eyes to face,
    between Rounds 3 and 4.
    Round 7: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, sc2tog, *sc in next st, sc2tog; repeat from * around; join with sl st in first st—12 sc.
    Round 8: Ch 1, sc2tog around; join with sl st in first st—6 sc. Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

    Babushka Scarf
    With larger hook and ecru, use the crochet-in-the- round method to make a center ring.
    Round 1 (right side): Ch 1, 6 sc in ring; join with sl st in first st—6 sc.
    Round 2: Ch 1, sc inc in each st around; join with sl st in first st—12 sc.
    Round 3: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, sc inc in next st, *sc in next st, sc inc in next st; repeat from * around; join with sl st in first st—18 sc.
    Round 4: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining and in next 2 sts, sc inc in next st, sc in next 4 sts, sc inc in next st, sc in next 3 sts, sc inc in next st, sc in next 4 sts, sc inc in next st; join with sl st in first st—22 sc.
    Rounds 5–7: Ch 1, sc in each st around; join with sl st in first st.
    Round 8: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining and in next 3 sts, sc2tog, sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog, sc in next14 sts, sc2tog, sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog; join with sl st in first st—18 sc.
    Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing Scarf to Head.

    Scarf Bow

    With larger hook and ecru, ch 4.
    Row 1 (right side): Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, sl st in last ch, ch 4, turn, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, sl st in next ch.
    Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing Bow to Scarf.

  5. 5

    Flowers

    (make 3—1 each with green, blue, and red/purple)
    With smaller hook, use the crochet-in-the-round

    Round 1 (right side): Ch 1, sc in ring, [ch 5, sc in ring] 4 times, ch 5; join with sl st in first st—5 petals.
    Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing Flower to Body.

  6. 6

    Sew the Pieces Together
    Stuff Head firmly. Thread tail through stitches of last round of Head and pull to close opening. Weave in end securely. Attach buttons (with sewing thread and needle) or safety eyes to head. With a short length of red, embroider a back stitch smile centered beneath the eyes. Place Babushka Scarf on head. Use long
    tail to sew Babushka in place, sewing a running stitch around Babushka near the front edge. With length of light brown, embroider straight stitch strands of hair near top of head, very close to edge of Babushka. With long tail from Body, whipstitch Head to Body. Sew Scarf Bow to front of Babushka. Sew Flowers to front of Body. With short length of lime, embroider a French knot at center of each Flower. With short lengths
    of lime, embroider lazy daisy leaves between the Flowers. Weave in ends.
