You Will Need (7 things)

  • Two pieces of so patterned needlecord Fabric , each measuring the circumference of your jean cu s plus 5cm x 20cm
  • Thread to coordinate with your patterned fabric
  • Thread to match the original hem stitching of your jeans
  • Sewing Machine
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Iron

Steps (7 steps, 60 minutes)

  1. 1

Unpick the hem of both your trouser legs. Now unpick the outside leg seam to a point 20cm from the bottom edge. Press with a hot iron.

  2. 2

Turn the jeans inside out. Take one of your pieces of needlecord fabric and place it wrong side up. Fold the longest edge furthest from you down 1cm, press with an iron and tack into position. Turn the fabric right side up and lay it along the bottom of one trouser leg so that its bottom raw edge lies along the second fold line of the denim hem – once the hem is re-folded the raw edge of the fabric should fit snugly inside it. Pin the fabric in position.

  3. 3

Thread your machine with blue thread to match your denim in the bobbin and thread to coordinate with your patterned fabric on top. Topstitch along the folded, tacked edge to secure the fabric to the denim all the way around the jeans leg. Trim any excess fabric along the open jeans side seam.

  4. 4

Pin the unpicked side seam together again before stitching it along the original crease by machine.

  5. 5

Zigzag stitch along each raw edge of the side seam to secure the oral fabric and prevent it from fraying (image 5).

  6. 6

    Press the side seam open.

  7. 7

    7. Fold the bottom edge up twice to re-form the original hem. Press with an iron, pin or tack and stitch by machine using ochre thread to match the original stitching on your jeans.
