This is something I had already for some months in mind. It's some kind of belt, but with a lace skirt on it and corset closure. It's something you can wear over a skirt, over pants or leggings. In this picture I'm wearing it over a store-bought grey skirt. It's a piece that can make an outfit more gothic looking and more creative!

Description

This is something I had already for some months in mind. It's some kind of belt, but with a lace skirt on it and corset closure. It's something you can wear over a skirt, over pants or leggings. In this picture I'm wearing it over a store-bought grey skirt. It's a piece that can make an outfit more gothic looking and more creative!

Instructions

  1. Small step1 1280851965

Cut out the fabric You need two times the black piece for the belt. The length must be your hips (or wherever you where them) - some space for corset lacing (+-10 à 15cm). The width of the belt is your choice. Something around 10cm is good I also cut this piece out of some kind of fabric to firm the belt and make it more stiff. This one is 1cm shorter in width ( in stead of 10 cm, 9 for example). This is for seam allowance. The fabric is too stiff to stitch it with the two pieces of black fabric and the lace. Later we are going to fold the black fabric around this one. But don't mind about that now Cut out the lace. The shape here is not completely correct. It's more like a rectangle cut round. You can do this how you want. The top where you stitch it on the belt has to be twice the length of the belt. Don't forget the seams!

  2. Small step2 1280852708

Sewing the belt pieces together: Lay the black pieces on each other with their outer side to each other. (the beautiful side inside). If you cut out the stiff fabric, but this above the other two (not in between!) Stitch the top and sides together. (see image) The bottom part must stay open. Now turn around everything and iron where necessary.

  3. Small step3 1280853189

Now fold the outer side (the one that's everyone going to see) around the stiff fabric (that was 1cm shorter). Iron this. Now sew on the inner side your lace fabric. If it's possible, first sew with a loose stitch and pull on one of the threads to ruffle the fabric. With my fabric, this was hardly possible. I just stitched it with small folds, everything pinned carefully together. Be careful that you stitch again the fabrics with it's beautiful side to each-other. (see image)If you have experience with sewing, you know this ;-) Then fold the seams inside so you have your skirt like it must look. The stitch on top of the belt to let it hold together. Stitch around the whole belt to secure everything.

  4. Last step! Take your grommets and tap them in your belt. Put a lace in it to tight it together. Put your new overskirt/belt on!
