A triangular shawl with a rose centered in the back
I love filet crochet. It works up fairly quickly and looks a lot more complicated than it is. For this, I just chained until it was a little wider than my arms, then turned, skipped 5 and started the basic 3-dc mesh (1 double crochet, 1 chain, and so on) to the end of the row. Each row, I decrease 1 from each side. I worked 5 rows before finding the center, marking that with a piece of yarn tied around the post of the double crochet, and starting my pattern. I copied the pattern from the Encyclopedia of Crochet onto graph paper so I didn't feel bad about marking it up, but you can use a copier or write in your books if it doesn't fuss you. Not pictured, but I did add a 6 inch fringe.
