Fern Pillow

This was so simple that I didn't think a how to was necessary. I took a piece of linen that I had hanging around and drew a fern on with a water soluble marker. I also drew the goats beards just to add more to the design. They are really easy to draw even if you don't consider yourself amazingly talented in the drawing department. Then I embroidered the leaves using homespun yarn by lions brand. It looks so much like a real fern it is really cool. The yarn is kind of tricky to work with you don't want to use more than like seven inches at a time so you will spend a lot of time treading needles. But it is worth it in the end. I used cotton embroidery thread for the details and stems. I just did a split stitch for all of the detail and stems. EASY Once you are done make sure your square is still square. Cut the corduroy fabric to size and sew together right side in. Leave about three inches open. Gently turn the pillow right side out and stuff firmly. Hand stitch opening and add trim. For the edge trim I just took the same yarn and did a half double crochet stitch and then whip stitched it on after a I sewed the pillow together. This whole thing took no time at all and it really came out nice !! I made it as a gift and now plan on making a few more for me and for friends come Christmas. Hope you enjoy !!
