  • How to stitch a stitched coaster. Felt Coasters - Step 1
    Step 1

    <center>

    First, gather what you need. You will need a felting needle, a big chunk of foam, and some wool roving. I got the wool at World Market, but you can also get it at Hobby Lobby or online. I got the needle and the foam at Hobby Lobby also.

    Pull some wool from the ball of roving. NEVER cut it.

    Make a nice, thick circle with the felt. You can also use a cookie cutter, but the only cookie cutters I had had a bar across them ):

    If you do use a cookie cutter, your coaster will be perfectly round and crisp at the edges. All you have to do is fill up the cookie cutter with the wool roving.

    Now, on top of the foam block, start felting your circle. Make sure you keep the needle straight up and down to prevent the needle from snapping/breaking.

    Gently peel the circle from the foam, and flip to the other side and continue felting. Keep flipping and felting the circle until it is fully felted.

    Now, pull some wool roving of an additional color.

    Create a lobe with the additional color. This will be one lobe of the heart. :)

    If you have a heart cookie cutter, you can just use that too. All you have to do is center it on the circle and fill it completely with the roving.

    Now felt that lobe and form to shape.

    Now pull some more roving of the same color and make another lobe. You should now kind of see the heart. Now, Felt! :D

    Now do the same thing you did in steps 4, flip and felt, flip and felt. Eventually, it should be fully felted. You know it is felted when it feels strong and is pretty much flat.

    Yay! :D

    You are now done. Pretty awesome, huh?

    You can also felt some felting yarn around the heart to emphasise the heart shape. I used Lion Brand felting wool yarn. You just keep poking it with the needle like normal and tadaa! :)
