About

Here is a simple craft that you can do out of paper or fabric. It is an Origami Kitty made of felt. I chose to do it out of felt because it is affordable, easy to work with and more durable than paper. The completed project can be hung from a cord and used as a necklace or attached to a pin and used as a brooch. If you try it, let me know how it goes.

Please follow the images and instructions below.

Note, Additional Step: You can cut out a small rectangular piece of felt, in the same color, and hot glue (or stitch the corners), to clean up the look on the back of kitty. Do this before you string the necklace cord.

You Will Need (5 things)

  • 4" x 4" Felt Square
  • Button(s)
  • Embroidery Thread
  • Thread
  • Needle

Steps (8 steps, 20 minutes)

  1. 1

Cut a square of felt measuring 4 inches by 4 inches.

  2. 2

Fold bottom corner up to meet the top corner to make a triangle.

  3. 3

Fold bottom edges up, along lines, to make ears.

  4. 4

Turn over and your kitty should look like the image. At "X", sew a stitch in coordinating thread color to secure ears so it doesn't flop back down. Then fold the pointy top corner down to the back.

  5. 5

Now stitch that corner down with a constrasting color so it goes all the way through to the front side of the kitty.

  6. 6

When you flip it over, the stitch will show up as Kitty's nose.

  7. 7

Use buttons to sew eyes and sew whiskers by threading and knotting a couple strands of embroidery floss throught the felt.

  8. 8

The fold you made on the back of the kitty makes a natural opening for you string a cord through to make a necklace.
