You Will Need (5 things)

  • Needle And Thread
  • 1 spring back Hair Clip(s)
  • 1 sheet Felt
  • Fabric Scissors
  • 1 cup Fabric Stiffener mixed w/ water

Steps (6 steps, 60 minutes)

  1. 1

First cut your petals. Fifteen of the long ones and three of the small.
Separate the long petals into groups of five. These are our layers.

  2. 2

With a length of thread start a running stitch in the first petal of the first group of five as pictured. Continue with all five petals on the same thread. Pull the thread tight, gently.

  3. 3

The petals will pull together in a circle. Stitch together the first and last petal together at the base with a couple stitches. Repeat the process with the two remaining sets of five petals.

  4. 4

Once the three layers are complete, sew them together in the middle. Don't worry about how flat it looks. Fabric stiffener will work a miracle! Stagger the petals for a fuller effect as I've done in the picture.

  5. 5

For the center, roll up a single small petal into a tube like shape. Wrap another small petal around it looser and the final petal loosely around both of them. Stitch them together by running the needle through the entire tube several times. If it seems to tall snip of the extra length at the bottom. Now whipstich it or glue it to the center of your flower.

  6. 6

Magic time! On a whim, I decided to try this, and now I love it. I mixed 1/4 cup fabric stiffener with 1 cup warm water in a spray bottle. I placed a towel under my lotus and sprayed it with my mixture. White dots appear at first, but don't fret, it dries clear. I didn't saturate it, just dampended all over. While the petals are wet, shape them. Move them upward to mimic the real flower more. I let it dry for 24hrs and viola! Attach a clip and prepare for compliments!
