Faux Cruelty Free Fabric Feather Hair Extensions

Who needs to kill birds to have pretty hair?

I see feather hair extensions everywhere and few people seem to care about the birds that are farmed and killed so women can have different colors in their hair. I'm sure this has been done before by someone, but I have not seen anyone that makes these by hand. I know it is a little ratty looking but that is because I got it wet with the brush to get it the threads frayed straighter. Once dry it will be pretty and fluffy and yes...sparkly.

Description

I see feather hair extensions everywhere and few people seem to care about the birds that are farmed and killed so women can have different colors in their hair. I'm sure this has been done before by someone, but I have not seen anyone that makes these by hand. I know it is a little ratty looking but that is because I got it wet with the brush to get it the threads frayed straighter. Once dry it will be pretty and fluffy and yes...sparkly.

Instructions

  1. Small dscf1228

Using a fine bristled brush or one without nibs, brush out strips of WOVEN fabric so the edges fray horizontally, pull out the long vertical threads by hand. Brush until the frayed edges are rather lengthy and fluffy.

  2. Small dscf1233

After the fraying is done, use a touch of glitter glue or puffy glitter paint to add a bit of glitz, best to put it on your finger and gently spread it down the entire strip.

  3. Small dscf1234

The puffy paint or glitter glue will prevent further fraying. Here I am lightly spreading it, I don't know if you can see the sparkles or not.

  4. Small dscf1237

    Use a large banana clip

  5. Small dscf1239

Use whatever glue you will, try hot glue, I did. Adhere the "feathers" to the clip.

  6. Small dscf1246

Clip it in! It would look better if I frayed it a bit more. Maybe next time.
