Description

My porch light fixture doesn't work, so I wanted something that both looked nice, and would make coming home at night a little less dark and creepy.

Instructions

  1. Small dsc00449

First, you'll need a nice looking candle holder, that can be hung. I found these for $2 at Goodwill!

  2. Small dsc00451

Hang the candle holder from a wire outdoors, this makes it easier to get at those awkward angles. Spray it evenly with spray paint (any color is fine, I chose a metallic grey). Allow 10 - 15 minutes to dry, and spray a 2nd coat.

  3. Spray a coat of finishing spray, allow it to dry, and apply a 2nd coat. Make sure to cover it extremely well.

  4. Small dsc00454

Choose your decorations. I have 2 different size chains, of that same color. I'll show you how I attached it.

  5. Small dsc00456

With a pair of needle nose pliers, open the end link of the chain, hook it through itself, and pinch it shut using the pliers.

  6. Small dsc00457

It should look like this. I hooked this around the right holder (there are 3 holders on mine) I hooked the other end on the very left holder.

  7. Small dsc00458

I found the center of the chain and hung it over the center holder, used a thin jump ring, and have it through both sides of the chain, keeping it in place.

  8. Small dsc00459

I took the thinner chain, and have it draped in front of the thick chain, and I hooked the ends the same way I did the other chain.

  9. Small dsc00460

As a last minute idea, I added a jewel to the center of the thin chain. I used a jump ring and the pliers to attach it.

  10. Small dsc00461

You should have as many solar lights as you do candle holders. I bought these for only $1 at a dollar store ($2 for the holder, $3 for 3 lights, this project only cost me $5!). Twist and pull the light off of the stake, it comes off pretty easy. The light on the left is the one I pulled out.

Apply hot glue to the bottom of the light, and quickly put it in the candle holder. Make sure you cover it good before sticking it.

  12. Small dsc00463

    It should sit like this.

You can now hang it outside, and it should look something like this (minus the bird poop on the house).
