About

I have had this little blanket I call Lovey since my baby shower. Well technically, since I was just a freeloader at my shower, it was given to my mother, and then to me. I still have her (yes, her) and it may or may not still be in the vicinity of the bed. I carried this thing everywhere for years and once it was even left in a hotel room (for shame!) and my mother made sure they didn’t throw it away, and even had it shipped UPS back to me. So of course, when it's time for me to make a blanket for the wee one of someone special, this is my go-to pattern. Not only does it have a ton of meaning for me personally, but has a great fancy visual appeal. Bonus: it's not hard at all!

I entered this pattern at the Alaska State Fair 2 years ago and it won an Honorable Mention! So proud!

You Will Need (2 things)

  • 6 Round Needle
  • 3 skein Caron Simply Soft Yarn

Steps (3 steps, 2400 minutes)

  1. 1

Cast on a multiple of 18 stitches + whatever you want for a border, but at least 1 stitch on either end. I add 5 stitches to each side, and like 9 repeats of the pattern below, for a total of 172 stitches.

  2. 2

Slip the first stitch of each row - it makes for a nicer finish later.
    Row 1: knit
    Row 2: purl
    Row 3: k5, * k2 tog 3 times, (k1, yo) 6 times, k2 tog 3 times * repeat from * to * until last stitch, k5
    Row 4: knit

  3. 3

Repeat the above until you have reached the desired length. Weave in ends and block flat.
