Eventually I plan on installing wooden floating shelves, but with so many other projects headed my way I figured I better do a temporary fix that will look nice and last a few months until I get around to doing it how I really want. (That and my power tools are in a box somewhere yet to be unpacked). I originally thought I would make shelf covers and just cover them with shelf liner but after going to several stores I found that I really didn't like any of the selections they had. So on to the fabric store, where I picked up a pretty yellow damask fabric that would do the trick. This easy to follow to tutorial will show you how to make $12 shelf covers to hide those ugly wire ones.

Gather all of your materials and set up a drop cloth in a well ventilated area, this will be where you spray your poster board with adhesive.
If you are planning on painting your closet or pantry, now is the time. Unscrew the shelf supports, then gently using pliers remove the support nails and finally the supports. Try to go slowly as you don't want to damage the wall since these will have to go back. Paint your walls, I painted mine with Olympic Flagstone. Once dry re-install your shelves and move on to your next step.
Start by measuring your shelves and figuring out how much poster board / fabric you will be needing.
Cut your poster board down into two pieces, your top piece which should measure the length and width of your shelf and your front lip which should measure the length and width of the front of your shelf plus a 1/4". This extra allowance will be used where the foam core pieces join-- so don't forget it!
Join your two pieces together with painters tape to make an 'L' shape. Tape both sides for extra added support.
Next layout your fabric on a flat surface and cut around your foam core leaving 1/2" edge to fold over. Make sure to leave enough fabric to wrap around the lip. Tape the corners of the fabric down flat to help during adhesion. Spray Glue the top and front lip of the foam core and apply it to your pre-cut fabric.
You can now glue the back edges down with either hot glue or spray glue making sure to carefully fold the edges like you would a present. When they are finished simply put them on top of your shelves.
