When my JoAnn's started liquidating all of their home decor fabric samples for $2 each, I stocked up! These pieces' pre-serged edges and size are perfect for an e-reader, notebook, netbook, or tablet case.
Cut one of your fabric samples to the size of your netbook, leaving a half inch on all sides for seams. For the second fabric sample, you will do the same measuring and cutting except for one side, leaving approximately 4 inches. This will be the flap that covers and attaches to the front of the case. I tried to make it so that the top of the case (including the flap)were the sides with pre-serged edges that come on the samples already.
To further protect my netbook, I then hot glued two pieces of felt to the wrong sides of the fabric samples. This is optional and could also be done by sewing them on.
I then sewed the two sample pieces together on three sides (not the side with the flap), wrong sides together. I did a straight seam and then reinforced it with a zig-zag stitch because I'm super paranoid.
Turn the pouch right sides out. Sew the velcro to the underside of the flap and the front of the pouch so that it closes. Embellish at will, and voila!
