You Will Need (3 things)
- Scissors
- Copy Paper
- String
Steps (20 steps, 15 minutes)
-
1
Gather your materials, an 8.5 x 11 sheet of copy paper, string, and a pair of scissors.
-
2
Fold the paper on the diagonal so that the top (short) edge is even with one of the side edges.
-
3
Fold the bottom flap up, along the bottom edge of the folded triangle
-
4
Cut along the fold line to remove the skinny rectangle of paper, leaving you with a square with a diagonal crease.
-
5
Fold the open corner in so that the 'top' edge is even with the center fold, repeat on the other side.
(like you are making a paper airplane) -
6
Fold the corners back up so that the 'top' edge is even with the new fold line
-
7
This is what it will look like open.
-
8
Cut a small triangle from the center fold, about an inch from the tip of the end (the end away from where all the folding happens)
-
9
Cut another small triangle from the center of the fold for the 'wingtip', repeat on the other side
-
10
Here is what it will look like unfolded.
-
11
Take the long rectangle of paper you cut off to make the square and fold it in half.
-
12
Make several cuts from the folded edge almost (but not all the way) to the open edge
-
13
Open it up and tear or cut open every other cut on each side to create one long strip of paper.
-
14
The strip
-
15
Insert one end of the strip into the hole at the tip of the kite, tape or twist to keep in place.
-
16
Cut a long (1 1/2 ft) piece of string, Insert the string into one of the wing holes with the fold pointing up and bring around from back to front and tie in place
-
17
Insert the other end of the string into the other hole and repeat.
-
18
String tied
-
19
Tie the end of the string still on the spool to the middle of the loop of string tied to your kite.
-

Take your new kite outside and have fun!
