Please note this is not the finished version. I still need to stuff it with some cotton, but the idea is there. Also, this is an upcycle for me, using a lot of old scraps, an old t-shirt, foam earbud covers and bag straps, but feel free to use whatever you need - whether new or old materials - to substitute.

Description

Please note this is not the finished version. I still need to stuff it with some cotton, but the idea is there. Also, this is an upcycle for me, using a lot of old scraps, an old t-shirt, foam earbud covers and bag straps, but feel free to use whatever you need - whether new or old materials - to substitute.

Instructions

  1. Small minion circles

I used the cake tin and marker to outline the cushion shape and cut around the outline, leaving 1/4 inch seam allowance. The side of the circle with the marker is the “inside” of the minion.

  2. Small minion goggles

With the marker, I outlined and cut out the goggle shape on the gray fabric, leaving no seam allowance. I then traced the gray goggles on white fabric, and trimmed the edges of the white fabric so it could fit within the gray outline.

  3. Small minion stitch

I then used a whip stitch (I’m guessing that’s what this is called?) to secure the edges of the white eyeballs to the gray goggles.

  4. Small minion eyes

I then used a whip stitch (I’m guessing that’s what this is called?) to secure the edges of the white eyeballs to the gray goggles.

  5. Small minion frontback

Cut out pieces of denim to make up the overalls with straps and pockets and straight stitch them onto the yellow circle with brown thread so the stitches stand out. Sew the buttons on top of the straps and use a Sharpie to draw the minion logo on his pocket. Carefully, cut out the back pieces of the goggle strap (I forgot to do this!! :( ) and overalls and sew them on.

  6. Small minion match

Stack the circles, right side in, making sure to match the goggle and overall straps before pinning everything down by the green outline. Sew along this border, make sure to leave a space to flip the minion right-side out.

  7. Realize you need but don’t have cotton on you and be sad that you can’t complete the project… Or if you do have cotton on you, stuff the minion, carefully fold in the raw edges of the opening and invisible stitch it shut.
