i am currently under construction of my latest boredom buster and obsession: duct tape. trust me, its addictive. i was constructing this wallet out of red tape but i ran out :'(. so, i finally just made a silver wallet for the how-to. it's not as detailed as the red one, but i may add more steps later for things like i.d. holders or more pockets or coin pockets and decorations, etc.

Description

i am currently under construction of my latest boredom buster and obsession: duct tape. trust me, its addictive. i was constructing this wallet out of red tape but i ran out :'(. so, i finally just made a silver wallet for the how-to. it's not as detailed as the red one, but i may add more steps later for things like i.d. holders or more pockets or coin pockets and decorations, etc.

Instructions

  1. Small p1010260 1238193173

take a piece of duct tape that's about 8-9 inches long. this doesn't have to be exact, and put it sticky-side up on a flat surface. Then take another piece of the same length and stick it to the first one sticky-side down, leaving half of the sticky side from the first strip exposed.

  2. Small p1010261 1238193165

fold the exposed stickiness from the first strip forward onto the second piece of tape. it doesn't matter if your edges are messy, they'll be covered up.

  3. Small p1010263 1238193285

flip the tape over so there is half the sticky side of the second strip showing. take a third piece of tape and put it on this sticky strip, leaving half of it hanging off as you did before. the strips are supposed to be the same size, mine are a little off. repeat this proccess until you have a sheet of duct tape at least 7 inches long.

  4. Small p1010266 1238193568

now, take the last sticky strip and fold it over so there is no stickiness showing, like you did in the beginning. your sheet should look something like this. if your edges are really uneven or a few tape strips are sticking out, cut the edges so they're the same length as the tape strip you started with.

  5. Small p1010267 1238193672

fold your duct tape sheet in half along one of the many creases in the tape. if the sheet won't fold exactly in half, don't worry. as long as it's close you'll be fine. if you have a wrinkly side, fold it so the wrinkly side is on the inside so it won't show in the final product. your wallet folded in half should be taller than a dollar bill so your money won't fall out when you use it! :0 (p.s.- don't throw away your extra tape! i ripped off some strips wrong, but as long as they're not wadded up you can use them in the next few steps.)

  6. Small p1010268 1238193889

now, take a strip of tape that is as tall as your wallet and rip it in half longways. i used my messed up tape and cut off the bad parts. fold one half of the strip over one side and the other half over the other side. this holds your wallet so it stays folded. cut off any overhanging tape.

  7. Small p1010270 1238194036

now it's time to make pockets!!! fold your wallet in half (the way a normal wallet folds) so there's a crease down the middle. make two equal-sized sheets of duct tape using the same method as before (only use about three pieces) that have the same width as half your wallet (aka from side to crease).

  8. Small p1010271 1238199060

to put your pockets on, peel off the piece of tape on the side (the one holding the wallet folded) but only on the inside. leave the part on the outside of the wallet stuck on. place the pockets where you want them, making one higher up than the other, but leaving room for your cards to stick out. tape the bottom of the higher up one onto the base of the wallet to close the bottom, but leave the lower one. you'll close it in the final step. once they are placed, put the side tape back on over them to secure them.

  9. Small p1010272 1238199192

then, take another piece of tape as long as the height of your wallet and tear it in half vertically. this will go straight down the middle of the inside of your wallet, right on the crease you made earlier, to hold the other side of the pockets. place the middle of the strip on the crease and flatten out the tape.

  10. Small p1010273 1238199598

finally, get a piece of tape that is as WIDE (horizontally)(<--->) as your wallet, not as tall. rip this piece in half vertically. take your half-strip and fold it evenly over the bottom of the wallet, NOT THE TOP! after all, you want to put money inside, right? :) this tape on the bottom closes the bottom pocket. don't worry, the pocket won't be sticky at the bottom if you make it a tight seal. after you're done with this...CONGRATULATIONS!!! you're done! enjoy your creation!!! (the picture doesn't have the bottom piece on it. sorry!)
