I have always loved driftwood - they’re smooth & light, and evoke memories of happy times beside the shore. In the past, I have been lucky enough to be able to collect some during some summer travels. I left them out under the sun to dry, and brought them back to the city with me to transform into pendants. To make this pendant, you'll need to know how to do a basic crochet slip stitch... or how to attach a metal chain to something using jump rings.

Description

I have always loved driftwood - they’re smooth & light, and evoke memories of happy times beside the shore. In the past, I have been lucky enough to be able to collect some during some summer travels. I left them out under the sun to dry, and brought them back to the city with me to transform into pendants. To make this pendant, you'll need to know how to do a basic crochet slip stitch... or how to attach a metal chain to something using jump rings.

Instructions

  1. Small 107009 2f2015 01 22 031150 1

You'll need the materials listed to the side - most of which are pictured here. I have painted the drift wood piece already with acrylic paint - feel free to do so with any pattern you like: geometric, floral, etc. If you want to make sure you get straight lines while painting, using masking tape as a guide is super helpful :)

Then you will want to glue the jump rings to your driftwood on the back side using your glue gun. Make sure to leave some space for threading the necklace cord through later.

Next, you just wrap the waxed linen cord around the driftwood where the jump rings are, which makes the whole thing look neater & hide where the jump rings connect to the wood. I used my glue gun to glue down the thread every time it wrapped around to ensure durability. Last but not least, slip stitch a necklace cord using your crochet thread and hook, and attach it to the driftwood via the jump rings. Attach a button at the end for a closure and you're done :) If you prefer a different look, you can attach a metal chain instead of a crochet cord - customize this however you like!
