Position Doily on place mat. You can hold it down with a dab of double stick tape if you want.
If you want to use more than one colour of paint, go ahead and mix up your colours. Make sure the excess paint has been squeezed out of the foam, or it gets gloppy, unless gloppy is the look you are going for, then its fine.
Use a stippling motion to transfer the paint into all the little lacy parts of the doily, be careful your doily stays in place or you will not get clear results.
Remove doily leaving behind the stencil of the lacy doily. Wait for it to dry before painting on top of it.
