About

Someone's trash has ought to be someone else's treasure! I love hunting for thrift shop goods and transforming them into once again loved pieces. Sometimes removing shoulder pads and a little bit of a sew job can go a long way! There are tons of dresses similar to the one I purchased that has sleeves, shoulder pads, and an awkward length, find one that has a thicker, blazer type material for best results!

You Will Need (6 things)

  • 1 Thrifted Dress
  • Gold Buttons
  • Sewing Machine
  • Scissors
  • Fabric Pencil
  • Seam Ripper

Steps (8 steps, 45 minutes)

  1. 1

    Lay the dress down flat.

  2. 2

    Remove the buttons with scissors.

  3. 3

Mark the position of each button as you remove them.

  4. 4

Remove the shoulder pads with scissors.

  5. 5

Using a seam ripper (you can find at sewing/fabric shop or usually comes with sewing machine), remove the sleeves by cutting the seams.

  6. 6

Measure the desired length of the dress if you want to shorten and pin it down.

  7. 7

Cut the excess fabric from the length leaving at about an inch or so.

  8. 8

Sew the sleeves hems and the dress hems with a sewing machine or by hand, replace the buttons with gold buttons (I did this by hand).

    There you have it!!!
