About

While roses may look intimidating to paint, they actually aren't too difficult. This tutorial is aimed to help in the process of painting these beautiful flowers! One thing I would highly recommend is looking at a picture of an actual rose while painting them. It definitely helps with the highlights and shadows.

You Will Need (4 things)

  • White Nail Polish
  • Several Acrylic Paint s
  • Thin Paintbrush
  • Matte/Shiny Top Coat

Steps (7 steps, 120 minutes)

  1. 1

For this particular design, I started with a black and white striped background. This is completely optional, you could truly paint any colors you want. Anyway, first step for painting roses is to use your lightest pink and paint a basic rose shape. One common misconception is to paint just a kind of circle shape. I think roses look much more realistic if you paint them on their sides, like how they are usually seen.

  2. 2

Next, use a red paint to start adding depth to your rose. Again, looking at a picture of a rose will help immensely with this.

  3. 3

Next step is to use an even darker red. I just mixed a tiny bit of black paint to red to make this color. See how realistic the rose looks already?

  4. 4

Now, add a bit of highlights to your rose with some small dabs of white acrylic paint.

  5. 5

Almost there! Use a lighter green to paint a basic leaf outline.

  6. 6

and use your darker green to make your leaf look realistic.

  7. 7

Last but not least, for this particular design, I used NYC Matte Top Coat. However, you could use any kind you want. Or even shiny top coat for that matter!
