You Will Need (9 things)

  • Iron
  • Pencil
  • ½ yd Leather or Vinyl
  • ½ yd Pattern Fabric for lining
  • 1 Magnetic Snap closure
  • E6000 Glue or similar adhesive
  • Scissors
  • Double sided Fusible Web (like Wonder Under or Heat n Bond)
  • Personalized Label

Steps (10 steps, 40 minutes)

  1. 1

    What you'll need:
    - faux leather (vinyl or similar)
    - fabric for lining
    - personalized label (like mine from Dutch Label Shop)
    - fusible web (Wonder Under or Heat n Bond)
    - scissors
    - 1 magnetic snap closure
    - E6000 adhesive (or similar)
    - iron
    - pencil

  2. 2

After gathering all of the supplies, grab a couple circular objects that have a diameter matching the desired dimensions of the clutch. For example, for my clutch I grabbed a plate with an 11 inch diameter and one with a 7 inch diameter, allowing me to create a clutch that is 11 inches by 7 inches.

  3. 3

On the inside of the faux leather, trace two large half circles and two small half circles to create the sides, top and bottom of the envelope. Once happy with the shape, cut out the clutch very carefully, especially as there will be no finishing to the edges!

  4. 4

To create the shape for the lining, lay the fusible web paper over the flat cut out clutch and trace just the center and the top (the sides and bottom don't need to be lined as they will not be seen inside the purse).

  5. 5

Once the fusible web paper is cut out, iron it onto the inside of the lining fabric, cut it out and then iron the lining fabric to the inside of the faux leather. Follow the directions on the packaging, but use a lower heat setting so as not to damage the faux leather.

  6. 6

With the lining adhered to the faux leather, you can add a personalized label to make the clutch look more professional (and totally legit)! ;)

These custom labels are from Dutch Label Shop and are sew-in labels which were created with my custom logo, font and colors!

  7. 7

Now, it's time to put the clutch together, and it's the easiest part! Simply fold in the sides and then fold the bottom up, carefully marking where they overlap. Add a layer of adhesive to each side flap inside the marked areas.

  8. 8

Carefully fold the bottom over the sides and secure in place using weights to make sure everything stays in place while the glue cures.

  9. 9

While the glue is curing, prepare your magnetic snap. Once the adhesive is set enough to the point where it won't come undone, carefully create two small parallel slits in the center of the top and bottom, making sure they line up. Place the receiving (female) snap piece on the bottom, and the protruding (male) snap on the top piece. Use the thin metal spacer wrapped in a small circle of lining fabric to cover the metal fastening on the outside and create the look of a button.

  10. 10

You're done! Show off and enjoy!!
