The most important item in this tutorial is the jewelry box. It's important that you get one with a raised edge (see picture). I got mine at a big box craft store for about $6 dollars (with a coupon). Feel free to stain it if you wish, following the instruction on your stain can.

Start playing with arranging the individual tiles. I got mine from Home Depot in big sheets, which I cut up.
-
3
Once you are happy with your design, dab a bit of tile glue on the back of each tile and press down.
-

Now, and this is important, once all the tiles have been glued, put the project aside for 24 hours. It takes a while for the glue to set properly, so give it time. It may be annoying not being able to do it all at once, but believe me- it's all worth it in the end!

After you have waited for a day, come back and get ready to mix the grout. Start off by taping off the edges with some masking tape.
-
6
Mix the grout according to the instructions on the box. I recommend using sanded grout for this project.
-
7
Once mixed, add a dab of your favorite paint color and mix. Mix thoroughly.
-
8
Using a grout float, cover the mosaic with grout. Make sure that grout gets evenly into all the spaces.
-
9
Each grout is a little different, so follow the instructions on the box. For me, I waited about 20 minutes for grout to set a little (it will still be soft, though) and gently clean off the tiles with a damp sponge.

10
Once the grout is dry (about 2 hours), wipe all your tiles clean and pull of the tape.

The jewelry mosaic box is now ready for use! This project, though not difficult, is a little time-consuming, with a lot of wait times between drying, setting, etc. So worth the wait, though! I absolutely love mine...and thinking about making more as gifts!
