Make your own hairband and/or waist belt by upcycling your old yoga mat! Don't believe that's possible? Well it actually is and pretty easy too, especially with this step by step tutorial. For quiet some time now I thought about what I should do with my old but still intact yoga mat and now I have an idea! I don't know how you feel about this, but I've been searching for the perfect hairband for such a long time now and never found the perfect one. Now is there anything better than making your own personal hairband that fulfills all your wishes? I've made myself three hairbands so far and I am absolutely satisfied with them.

For quiet some time now I thought about what I should do with my old but still intact yoga mat and now I have an idea! Instructions

  1. Small 2018 05 24 141232 img 3185

Start with cutting your yoga mat into a 42 cm long and 2 cm wide stripe. Pick your favorite fabric, wrap the fabric around the yoga mat-stripe and sew it on.

  2. Small 2018 05 24 141238 img 3406

Now take a 16 cm long and 1 cm wide elastic tape and the a cm long and wide piece of the same fabric. Again wrap the fabric around the band but do not sew it onto it, because then it'll loose it's elasticity.

Now sew the elastic tape on each ends of the hairband and you are ready to go! Instead of an elastic band you can simply replace it with the fabric. Just take 15 cm more lenght on each side of the hairband.

  4. For the waist belt it is pretty much the same, you only need more fabric on each side to bind it together or make a bow tie.
