Description

This Fall fashion DIY is an easy update to some booties that might need some love and a little sparkle.

Instructions

  1. Small 112120 2f2015 11 23 010253 glitter%2bboots%2btape%2bpre%2bglitter

Tape off the area you want to glitter with painter’s tape. Be vigilant about sealing off the edges so paint/glitter will not seep through. The boots I chose worked well because the zippers on both sides created a natural line.

  2. Small 112120 2f2015 11 23 010320 glitter%2bboots%2bpaintbrush%2bcloseup%2bpaint

Paint the area you want to glitter the same color as glitter. This will really help the boots look nice if glitter falls off. Let dry. One coat worked for me.

  3. Small 112120 2f2015 11 23 011908 glitter boot first coat

Pour glue and glitter into the disposable container and mix well. The ratio should be 50/50. Apply a thin layer of glue to the area with your paintbrush or foam brush. Let dry for about one hour--you want to make sure each layer is completely dry. NOTE: A paintbrush worked better for me because I was able to get into small corners with ease. The first layer will look lame and the glitter very sparse. That's ok!

  4. Continue applying the glue glitter mix in layers. The glue will look white and thick but dry clear. Make sure you allow enough time for the layers to dry before adding another one.

  5. Small 112120 2f2015 11 23 011407 glitter%2bboot%2bglitter%2btape%2bsingle

With your third layer, only apply the glue mix to half of the boot. Immediately after adding this layer, take your glitter and shake it generously over the boot. Let dry for 15 minutes before shaking off excess. Do the same with the other half of your boot. Make sure the glitter covers the entire area.

  6. Small 112120 2f2015 11 23 011432 glitter%2bboots%2btape%2bcover%2bpair

Apply one thin coat of glue (no mixture) over the entire glitter area. Let dry. NOTE: You will notice that it's difficult to cover the area with a thin later due to the bumpiness of the glitter. Do the best you can and then be patient and let the layer dry for least an hour. It will dry clear.

  7. Small 112120 2f2015 11 23 010821 glitter%2bboots%2bcovered%2bnewspaper

Cover the entire boot minus the glittered area with newspaper. Spray with several coats of clear varnish; let dry thoroughly between coats. (And spray in a ventilated area!!)

Carefully remove the painter's tape from the boot. This might be a little tricky. I had a thick layer of glue around most of the boot and it doesn't just peel away. TIP: Mod Podge is slightly stretchy so when you pull the tape away, it might stretch but it won't crack. Use small pointed scissors and trim away the excess glue using the boot edge as a guide.
