I made this for my sisters Christmas present, as she loves hats. This is actually my second attempt at this hat because my dad crushed the first one just before Christmas Day which was quite inconvenient. On the first hat I used regular duct tape, which was a lot more flimsy and stretchy. On the second I used cloth tape which was a lot easier to use and has made the tophat very strong but it's quite heavy to wear (so it slips down your head a bit) and was terrible to paint. Also, the tape's edges are very visible because of the thickness. If I ever make this hat again, I think I'll use cloth tape again, but use less and make the outermost layer duct tape. The how-to that I used to make this hat stated that duct tape was the material used, but it looks like cloth tape. I made the goggles out of leather scraps, cardboard, plastic from a snap-lock bag, and copper wire(holding the moveable 'lenses', stapling everything together, and soldered to make the design on the right goggle). I died the the lace with brown fabric die but it ended up a sort of purple-grey. Sewing it into a bow was quite annoying but I like how it turned out in the end. The swirly desings are made of copper wire. I painted the paper flowers with silver on the edges to give them a metallic finish. I liked making this and I'm happy with how it turned out in the end after considerable setbacks...
