Cut Out + Keep

Diy Cutout Tank Variation

A stylish way to transform a tank without sewing.

I was inspired by the cut out trend. I like the looks that are more than just chopping holes or adding mesh inlays. I love ribbon, and I decided to use it to make cut out style details on an old tank. This is a no sew project and it is pretty quick. Also, it is cheap. I like to use things laying around the house, so it was free for me. This is a simple way to transform something boring into something more unique. My pictures are kind of rough because of the dark colors. Sorry.

Instructions

Lay tank top down flat and get out the ribbon. Pick a starting point on one side - preferably lower down. Stretch ribbon across diagonally to the other side. Making sure you have enough ribbon to cover the length and extra on each side for attaching, cut the length of ribbon you need. Repeat on the other side, laying across the tank to make an "x".

Now repeat this process but start at and end at a higher point. Weave them at the meeting points. My top right ribbon went under the top left ribbon and over the bottom left ribbon. I did the opposite for the bottom right ribbon.

Turn tank inside out and place the fusible web where you want to attach the ribbon. Use an iron to tape it into place. I put my iron on cotton and just pressed down for a couple of seconds. A back and forth motion with the iron will just move the ribbon. I didn't use a cloth. I ironed right on the ribbon and it was fine. Now you are done with the neckline.

The next part is the "sleeves". Wear the tank right side out. This is important if you have any body asymmetries. One sleeve may need to be shorter than the other. Pin a piece of ribbon just below your neckline somewhere around your armpit. You will need help for this part. Wrap the ribbon around your shoulder where you want your sleeve to sit. Have someone pin the ribbon in the back. Make sure the ribbon is snug or it will just flop down when you wear it.

Repeat with the bottom sleeve. In the front tape the end of the ribbon at the same starting point as the upper ribbon. In the back, tape it parallel and a little lower.

That's it! Have fun wearing it.
