Diy Crepe Paper Roses

DIY Crepe Paper Rose Bouquet

These stunning crepe paper flowers were inspired by gorgeous roses in full bloom that I spotted growing in my neighbors garden last summer. This design uses Italian floral crepe paper which is thicker and is a little more crinkly offering more stretch than ordinary craft crepe paper. But you can try this pattern with a variety of different crepe papers and the result will be beautiful. Using a paper coloured with an ombre gradient gives the flower a realness not found when using a solid coloured crepe. I’ve also used two greens - sage and a darker green leaf colour for variety in the stems. These would be stunning in a bridal bouquet of 10 or 12 stems or a smaller one for your bridesmaids, these handmade roses are a delightful addition to your wedding that will keep forever! You can find the pattern below. Check out my other handcrafted lifestyle projects at liagriffith.com. Have fun!~Lia

Instructions

  1. Small 107407 2f2015 02 11 191021 products

You will need floral crepe paper in two shades of green and your rose colour, 18 gage floral wire, floral tape, hot glue gun, scissors and wire cutters. The petal and leaf patterns cut out on cardstock.

  2. Small 107407 2f2015 02 11 191033 img 1277

Cut your petals and leaves out of crepe paper. You will need 4 of the smallest petal, 5 of the medium and 6 each of the two larger petals for each bloom. I use one leaf of each colour for the stems but you can add as many as you like for a fuller bouquet.

  3. Small 107407 2f2015 02 11 191046 img 1280

Gently stretch the centres of each petal to form a cup shape.

  4. Small 107407 2f2015 02 11 191156 img 1283

Cut your desired length of wire plus one inch extra for the stem and fold the tip over one inch.

  5. Small 107407 2f2015 02 11 191209 img 1289

Wrap one of the smallest petals around the top of the wire and glue it into place.

  6. Small 107407 2f2015 02 11 191219 img 1292

Glue the remaining small petals around the centre piece. Glue the next 5 petals on, working your way around and around the centre as the bud becomes bigger. For rose buds jump to step 11. Glue the next 12 petals around the base of the flower. Your rose will really start to take shape now. Gently pull on the top edges of your petals to create a ruffle.

  7. Small 107407 2f2015 02 11 191449 img 1301

Turn your flower upside down and wrap the green base around the stem. Glue into place.

  8. Small 107407 2f2015 02 11 191514 img 1305

Starting at your green base, begin wrapping floral tape down the wire, stopping at one inch from the flower head. Add your leaves and continue to wrap downwards For extra leaf stems glue two leaves at the top of your wire. Wrap with floral tape then add one or two more leaves on your way down.
