Description

People with curves like me, have to shape fabric so they create clothes that fit well. This is a simple skill that does the trick.

Instructions

  1. Small 115115 2f2016 10 09 084509 darts in bodice

Here is the bodice and there's a huge bust dart that needs to the marked and stitched for shaping. This pattern is the bodice lining.

  2. Small 115115 2f2016 10 09 084521 dart marked and pinned

Here's the dart marked in faint blue and pinned, ready to sew.

  3. Small 115115 2f2016 10 09 084649 dart pinning and checking

When I have darts on a pattern, I'll check the right and wrong side to see that the dart lines up and is straight.

  4. Small 115115 2f2016 10 09 084730 darts sewn

From here, sewing the dart is simple. I begin stitching from the widest part of the dart and finish at the point. The loose thread at the point is knotted and then cut off.

  5. Small 115115 2f2016 10 09 085456 sleeves piping and in dress

Once the seam is sewn, ironing is the next step to seal the dart. As you can see below, it all worked out well in the end.
