I was so excited to be asked to review the Cyanotype Sensitizer Set by Jacquard for Cut Out + Keep. It looks like it is hard to use, but it's real is easy and fun to do. The hardest part of it is having to wait to see the completed project.

Description

I was so excited to be asked to review the Cyanotype Sensitizer Set by Jacquard for Cut Out + Keep. It looks like it is hard to use, but it's real is easy and fun to do. The hardest part of it is having to wait to see the completed project.

Instructions

  1. Small 108789 2f2015 05 07 202806 img 3442%2b 282 29

The bottles in the set are marked A & B. These are mixed in equals parts using only enough for your project. I like that it contains enough to do 65 prints on 8 x 10 paper or forty 8 x 10 fabric prints. It seems like it takes a long time for this project, but most of the time is waiting for the chemicals to sit and dry.

  2. Small 108789 2f2015 05 07 202841 img 3445%2b 282 29

You mix each bottle just by adding water. Shake both bottles until the sensitizer is completely dissolved and sit aside for 24 hours.

  3. Small 108789 2f2015 05 07 202904 img 3447%2b 282 29

While waiting for the sensitizer to sit, prepare your sheet of paper if using in ton a paper craft. Make sure the paper is heavy so that it will not tear when rinsed later on.

  4. Small 108789 2f2015 05 07 202931 img 3448%2b 282 29

On your project if you only want a small area to be used, you can draw light pencil lines on to block off the area.

  5. Small 108789 2f2015 05 07 202957 img 3451%2b 282 29

If you are doing a larger project such as a bag or material, you can use painter's tape to block off the section.

Also, prepare the templates you will be using for a design. These are cardstock pieces that were cut using a die cutting machine, but you can use anything such as a stencil or even found objects. After the 24 hours are up in a subdued lit area, mix equal parts of bottle A and B and use a paint brush to add the chemicals onto the project. Allow them to air dry in the dark. It took approximately 24 hours for mine to dry due to the weather we were having at the time. I placed them in a closed box and covered them with a towel to make sure they weren't exposed to light by accident.

Place the templates onto the projects and place them in the sun for 1 to 30 minutes. I placed a piece of Plexiglas over the top to hold the pieces in place and allowed them to sit in the sun for 30 minutes.

Rinse the projects in cool water for 5 minutes and allow them to air dry. Your project is now complete and ready to use. It really is that easy!

  9. I found this product a lot of fun and extremely easy to use. There is not much for information on this brand online so I went into this project with a few questions such as how to clean up after the project especially if you have unused mixed chemical and what items I would need in doing this project such as those for mixing it. I also found that I did end up with some of the blue bleeding into other areas after rinsing it especially on the canvas bag. It's something that I'm going to see if giving it another good washing will remove, but if not, it just adds to the look of the project so it's okay with me. I tried and tested things to see how it went and it turned out really well. There really is no downside to this product except having to have the patience to wait for the final project, but it is well worth it. Overall, I think this is a great product and adds a whole new technique for mixed media and paper craft projects. I would encourage everyone to give it a try and see how easy and fun it is to use the Cyanotype Set by Jacquard!
