A hat to keep your head (and ears) warm when its cold outside.
I made this hat for my trip to Utah (my birthplace). It was late fall and I live in Florida, so I knew I was going to be cold. I didn't take any pictures during the creation process because I had to make one more hat and get ready to go.
In case you don't use patterns very often, or, I somehow manage to use different abbreviations than you do:
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
dc = double crochet
fdc = front post double crochet (or just a front double crochet)
If you need any directions for any of these stitches, I've found that about.com has great tutorials with pictures included:

Step 1
I use a magic circle. You can find some instructions for that here: http://www.allfreecrafts.com/crochet/magic-circle.shtml
If you don't want to use that method, I think that six chains looped together will suffice. -
Step 2
Row 1: ch 2, dc 11, pull the magic ring tight and sl st them together (12 stitches)
Row 2: ch 2, dc 2 in each all the way around sl st(24)
Row 3: ch 2 dc 1, dc 2 in next one, repeat from "dc 1" all the way around sl st(36)
Row 4: ch 2, dc 1 in next 2, then 2 in next one, repeat all the way around sl st(48)
Row 5: ch 2, dc 1 in next 3, then 2 in next one, repeat all the way around sl st(60) -
Step 3
Row 6 - 14 (or 13, 14 was a little long on me): Ch 2 dc 1 in each st all the way around sl st(60)
This is the gray part, so I switched colors here.
Row 15: ch 2, fdc 1 in each all the way around sl st(60)
Row 16 - 17: ch 2 dc 1 in each all the way around, sl st(60) -
Step 4
Fold the the portion after the fdc (which forms a place that is practically automatic for folding) up, so that the hat is encircled in the second color.
And you are done.
