APPLIQUE GECKO E hook Worsted wt. cotton yarn- small amount
RND 1: Ch 30, 3 sc in 2nd ch from hk, 1 dc in next 3 ch, 1 hdc in next, 1 sc in next 3 ch, 1 hdc in next 9 ch, 1 sc in next 6 ch, sl st in last 6 ch. Working on opposite side of foundation ch, 1 sl st in next 5 sts, (sk the last end sl st made), 1 sc in next 6 sts, 1 hdc in next 8, 1 sc in next 3 sts, 1 hdc in next, 1 dc in next 3 sts, join to 1st sc with sl st. RND 2: Sc, ch 1, sc in next sc, 1 sl st in next 10 sts, work first front leg as follows: Ch 7, 1 sl st in 4th ch from hk, ch 4, sl st in same 4th ch, ch 3, sl st in 4th ch, 1 sl st in next 3 ch, 1 sc in next 2 sts on body, 4 hdc in next st, 1 sc in next 3 sts on body, work 1st back leg as follows: Ch 8, 1 sl st in 5th ch from hk, ch 5, sl st in same 5th ch ch 4 sl st in 5th ch, 1 sl st in next 3 ch, 1 sc in next 2 sts on body, 3 sc in next, 1 sl st in next 5 sts, fasten off. Now join yarn with sl st ( counts as first ch) on opposite side of body, directly across from back leg just worked and work 2nd back leg the same as the first. Next sl st until you are in the st directly across from first front leg and work this 2nd front leg the same as the first. Sl st to end, join to 1st sc, fasten off. Optional: If desired, you may tack closed (from the underside) the spaces that were left in each foot by the ch lps and the holes formed by the worked sl sts in the same spot. Work 2 small French knots for eyes.
You can make these little critters any size you desire. You can even use regular worsted weight yarn and larger hook for big Geckos and applique them to granny squares to make a really cute afghan!
