I’m usually not one to follow any kind of sport, let alone the Olympics. However, maybe because the Olympics are here in Canada, I find myself not so much fascinated with the events as I am fascinated by the spirit the Olympics brings. Since I’ve sorta caught the fever, I thought I’d celebrate by crocheting an Olympic Gold medal! And I’m offering the pattern for free to anyone who has a half-hour of free time and is a fan of the games. Enjoy! Medal (Make 2) With Gold. 1. 6 sc in magic ring, or chain 2, 6 sc in second chain from hook. Do not join rounds. 2. Sc inc every sc (12) 3. (1 sc, 1 sc inc) around (18) 4. (2 sc, 1 sc inc) around (24) 5. (3 sc, 1 sc inc) around (30) 6. (4 sc, 1 sc inc) around (36) 7. (5 sc, 1 sc inc) around (42) 8. (6 sc, 1 sc inc) around (48) 9. Sl st in next, FO. Embroider the Olympic logo as pictured, as well as the year. Or get funky with it! I thought a tiny granny square motif indicating the sport of crochet would be cute. Or you could put a motif of any kind of hobby on it. Have fun! Then, join the two medals together at the top about 3 stitches to the left of the center with a single crochet, right sides facing out, and single crochet around. Slip stitch to the first single crochet, then chain 6 tightly. Join with a slip stitch to the 3rd single crochet to the right of the centre, and fasten off, weaving in ends. This forms the loop for the neck strap to go through.
Strap With Blue. Chain 145, (or whatever length you want). In 3rd chain from hook, double crochet in each chain across. Fasten off. Being careful not to twist the strap, pull one end of the strap through the medal loop. Sew the two ends of the strap together. Voila! You are now an Olympic Gold medalist! Congratulations!
