I'm testing out different basic beanie patterns :) Trying to find the perfect one to use when making 15 beanies for the children in my Mom's 1st grade class. The yellow one I tried out stripes and a pompom, the blue one is just plain, in case I decided to unravel it and try a different pattern. These are actually 2 different patterns, the yellow one starts with Half Double Crochets and then changes to Double Crochets when you stop increasing. The blue just sticks with Double Crochets the whole time. I kind of liked the look of the HDC though, and might try making up my own pattern with just that stitch. The beanie looks fuller and warmer at the top with the HDC then the spaced out DC at the bottom. The stitches don't look too far apart when the hat is just sitting there, but I'm worried when they put it on, it will stretch and there will be large gaps between stitches. And then what good will the hat do? I wouldn't be very warm with large gaps. Anyway like I said, I'm just testing out patterns :) The Yellow one came from http://daperfectmix.blogspot.com/2010/08/quick-easy-winter-beanies.html And the Blue one you have to purchase from http://www.poshpatterns.com/product/easy-crochet-pattern-beginner-beanie-hat-flower-sizes-newborn-adult-instant-download-croch-0?tid=1
