About

After trying to create numerous balls for a project, I came up with a formula to make different sized balls.

Sizes will differ with different crochet hooks.

These balls were made with size 10 hook.

  • Yarn
  • Crochet Hook

Steps (4 steps, 30 minutes)

  1. 1

    Small Ball

    Here is the basic formula.

    3sc (3)
    2sc in each stitch (6)
2sc in each stitch (12) this counts as one of the three rows!

If you want a small ball, crochet 3 rolls of 12.

    Dec SC (6)
    Dec SC (3)

    tie off

    finished size:
1.5 inch diameter with Size 10 hook

  2. 2

    Medium Ball

    Working off the basic formula.

    3sc (3)
    2sc in each stitch (6)
    2sc in each stitch (12)
2sc in each stitch (24) this counts as one of the six rows!

If you want a medium ball, crochet 6 rows of 24.

Dec SC in every two stitches(12)
Dec SC in every two stitches(6)
Dec SC in every two stitches(3)

    tie off end.

    finished size:
2.5 inch diameter with size 10 hook

  3. 3

    Large Ball

    Working off the basic formula.

    3sc (3)
    2sc in each stitch (6)
    2sc in each stitch (12)
    2sc in each stitch (24)
2sc stitch + 1sc in next stitch (36) this counts as one of the nine rows!

If you want a large ball, crochet 9 rows of 36.

Dec SC, the 1sc in the next stitch (24)
Dec SC in every two stitches(12)
Dec SC in every two stitches(6)
Dec SC in every two stitches(3)

    tie off end.

    finished size:
3.5 inch diameter with size 10 hook

  4. 4

    Go larger with formula!

I venture to guess that if you follow the pattern, you could make balls 4.5 inches, 5.5inches, etc.

Get creative. Make a ball scarf, Amigurumi, what ever.....

Share what you make. I want to see it.
