Hi all, I’m Nina from Maru Store. We sell quality Japanese Washi Tape and more goodies. Today I show you how to take all those unsightly promotional magnets and turn them into magnets you’ll love to see on your fridge. I guess you may have the same problem when dealing with promotional magnets that comes with flyers or advertisements in your mailbox. Personally I only keep the medical numbers on my fridge and put the rest away. Last weekend I was inspired by one of my blog reader to make washi tape magnet. So I dug out the collection of old magnets and made this tutorial on how to recycle and craft them with our MT Ribbon Wide Washi Tape at Marustore.

Instructions

  1. Small magnets2

What you will need: Promotional magnets (thin and soft ones) Washi Tape Scissors Craft Knife

  2. Small magnets3

First, you have to peel off the top layer of the magnet. It’s best to peel the top printed layer only and leave the white backing behind on the magnet. It can be a very difficult and delicate step, but I will show you how important it is later in the post.

  3. Small magnets41

You should have the white backing stayed on the magnet like this one. Next, cut out and stick a ribbon tape onto the magnet and simply trim around with a shape craft knife. With the thin magnets, it is very easy to craft with the knife.

  4. Small magnets7

You can see the differences it makes with the white backing on. The washi tape print on the right with the backing is much clearer and vivid than the one on the left.

  5. Small magnets8

Now you have made yourself some personally crafted washi tap magnet by recycling the promotional magnets. Use your imagination and play with different washi tape patterns to spice up your fridge door!
