A combination of textures and techniques come together in this cute accent cushion!
A combination of textures and techniques come together in this cute accent cushion!
Gather your supplies! You'll need some fabric, your paint ( I got 561 Metallic Gold by Jacquard), embroidery floss and needle, some brushes, scissors, iron and sewing machine are optional!
Start by cutting your fabric into two squares a little bit bigger than your desired finished size. I chose canvas because I really like the natural color and texture, but you could use whatever suits your fancy.
I started to paint the stars for the constellations as well as some random dots around the square. Try to keep towards the middle of the fabric, if you get too close to the edge it might get sewn on the inside! Ask me how I know. The recommended time to let the paint dry is 24 hours and then a brief ironing on both sides. I don't plan on washing this since it'll be an accent pillow, so I just waited until it was dry enough to handle.
Fill in your constellation lines with your embroidery thread. I used a simple back stitch.
Finished constellations! I accidentally skipped a star in the Big Dipper so I had to pull it out and redo it haha. Repeat on the other side if you want a double-sided cushion!
Place the two squares together good sides in. Sew it up using a machine or hand, leaving a little gap so you can turn it right side out and for the stuffing.
Cushion sewn and turned right side out!
Stuff that bad boy and sew up the gap.
Admire your super cute cushion and make more!
