This is the perfect neutralizer for hands that smell of onions, but also an ideal body soap with a gentle exfoliating effect. TIP I recommend a divider or similar tray-like mould such as a square or rectangular brownie tin. If you don’t want to invest in one yet, you can also use a shoebox lined with food wrap. Soap, coffee beans and a nailbrush – the perfect gift set!

Description

This is the perfect neutralizer for hands that smell of onions, but also an ideal body soap with a gentle exfoliating effect. TIP I recommend a divider or similar tray-like mould such as a square or rectangular brownie tin. If you don’t want to invest in one yet, you can also use a shoebox lined with food wrap. Soap, coffee beans and a nailbrush – the perfect gift set!

Instructions

  1. Slowly melt the coconut oil. Add the liquid oils and leave the mixture to cool to approximately 35–40°C.

  2. Make the lye from the NaOH and distilled water, observing the safety rules. Pour the cooled lye into the oil, then use a stick blender to thicken the mixture.

  3. Lighten a small amount of the soap batter with titanium dioxide, then set aside

  4. Add the perfume oil to the remaining, larger portion, and blend briefly with the stick blender until evenly distributed.

  5. Then add the coffee grounds and stir into the soap batter, this time with a wooden spoon or spatula. Now pour the brown soap batter into a flat tin.

  6. Using the smaller, lightened portion of soap batter, draw even lines lengthways over the brown soap batter. A very neat way to do this is to pour the lightened batter into an applicator bottle or measuring cup with a very small spout.

  7. Now dip a chopstick or skewer in the soap batter in the top left-hand corner of the tin, and draw it through the lines, working from top to bottom. You can also run the chopstick diagonally from the top left-hand corner to the bottom right-hand corner. The end result is a very pretty, neat marbled effect. TiP You can replace 340g water with the same amount of freshly brewed coffee. Be sure to leave it to cool first! The lye made with coffee will smell quite strange for the first few days (as will the soap). However, this odd smell will disappear after a little while, and the added perfume or essential oil will reign supreme.
