   First of all choose yourself some lovely fabrics… it is easiest to do with felt in terms of cutting out shapes that won’t fray!

   Then Draw yourself a template of the shape you want your cushion to be… I chose this lovely cocktail tray to draw around! I use a dressmakers pencil as the chalk rubs off easily to outline the template…

   Cut around the edge of your circle or square or whatever leaving a generous inch… You will need two of these obviously!

   Next choose your butterfly! I drew two templates, one large and one small and placed them on one of the circles of fabric and drew around them…

   et voila!

   Now you need to cut out your butterflies… super sharp scissors required… maybe ask a grown up to help you with this bit?

   Keep cutting and chopping until all finished!

   Now you need to cut one more circle of fabric of your contrasting material…

   Then using spray adhesive, turn over your top cushion piece and liberally spray with fabric adhesive and the place the cotton print side down onto the adhesive piece…

   I use Super 99 fabric adhesive as it is all you can get here in Vietnam… as for the instructions, they are in Chinese… but so far… shake can, spray the sticky… stick and hey presto… works for me!

   Pin two felt piece together and stitch around on your chalk outline… any stitch you fancy, but as the stitches may be visible try and keep it neat on both sides! I hand sew but machine sewing would be ideal really!

    When you have sewn 4/5 of the way around… STOP… stuff with cushion and pillow stuffing… push into the seams gently to get rid of bumps wrinkles and wobbly bits!

    Stitch up to close and it should look something like this!

    I then put a brocade around the edge and trimmed off the felt… this is optional… I was going to leave a claret felt border but just kept on cutting!

    Finally I added a contrasting butterfly by sticking two pieces of the cotton fabric together and then stitching on to the cushion and finishing with a little sparkly knick knack I had lying around…

    …And then I decided I didn’t like the brocade so I took it off again…

    And another… using pinstripe cotton & wool blend… so seal the edges of your cut outs to stop them fraying!
