I've always had "issues" in finding the perfect cleanser for my troubled skin- I've gone through an unbelievable amount of products! So I decided to develop my own cleanser, suited for my skin. I like to get creative and mix up my own dry facial wash which when mixed with water, creates a lovely, sometimes scrubby, natural cleanser. I eat poo, too. It helps with keeping my skin nice and clear. It tastes good too. You can also spread it on your skin for an added affect.

Instructions

  1. Small rose powder

I like to create a "base" for my cleanser by using a larger amount of one dry ingredient (which we will later add lotsa other nice ingredients to). Here are some great dry products to use as your base: - Ground oatmeal- this is my absolute favourite! Oatmeal is highly softening, slightly exfoliating and perfect for sensitive skin types - Ground orange lentils- pulverize orange lentils until a lovely powder is created. This is an incredible mixture for toning and scrubbing away dead skin cells, and is probably best for combo to oily skins (try other coloured lentils too!) - Ground orange or lemon peel- ground the dried peel (or Magic Bullet it hehe) until a fine powder is produced- this is wonderful for troubled or aging skin types - Chickpea powder- wonderful for absorbing oil and toning skin - Milk, Goat's Milk or Buttermilk powder- perfect for any skin type, especially dry and normal skins- with regular use you'll see soft and glowing skin - Amla, Sandalwood, Holy Basil- I pick these amazing powders up at my local Indian food store. All of these lovely ingredients will leave your skin glowing, especially since Amla powder is full of vitamin C Clay- clay is a wonderful base because of its cleansing properties. Oily/combo skins should use green, benotite or red clay (as well as fuller's earth) while dry, maturing, normal and sensitive skins are better off using white or pink varieties Make sure that your base powder is absolutely pulverized into a fine powder (or relatively fine).

  2. Small herbs

Time to add your choice of benefitial additives! You can add as many or as little as you'd like to your mix. - Ground herbs- herbs such as rosemary, basil, parsley, are a wonderful additive to this cleanser (make sure to research which herbs are suitable for your skin type, as there are many!) - Ground supplements- I've learned that ground zinc is wonderful for acne, and that vitamin C powder makes your skin look radiant. Experiment with different supplements to give your skin an extra nutritional boost - Base ingredients- add any of your base ingredients (in smaller amounts) to your mix - Ground almonds- these are great for exfoliating especially for dry and sensitive skins, as almonds are slightly moisturizing - Ground flowers- add some ground rose petals, chamomile or lavender to your mix for a soothing and detoxifying effect- any other type of flower will do, just research! - Tea- add your favourite blend of beneficial tea- such as green, white or black teas for antioxidants- to your mix. Add peppermint for a zing!

Use about a large, heaping cup and a half of your base to begin. With your base in an airtight container, add any amount of your beneficial ingredients. For example, I like to use oatmeal powder for my base. To it, I eyeball about two tablespoons of lavender, rosemary, parsley and vitamin C.

With the lid tightly on... SHAKE YOUR MIXTURE! (Shake it like a Polaroid picture haha)

Now your mixture is ready to use! When standing over your sink, splash your face with warm water. Add a little bit of dry cleanser (with a spoon, or however else you can manage) to the palm of your hand, and mix tiny drops of water to your mix until it has a smooth, creamy consistency appropriate for cleansing. Now, cleanse! And scrub away the dirt and oil on your face using gentle, circular motions. For an extra kick, leave the cleanser on for a minute (or five) and then rinse for a mini mask.

    - Use your cleanser as a mask in a pinch. When I'm way too lazy to make my own mask, I use a couple spoonfuls of my dry mixture and whatever liquid I prefer to create one - Research all the possibilities out there! There are so many additives to give your skin a wonderful boost - Try using this mixture on your body for lovely results - If your cleanser is highly exfoliating (with granules and their scrubbing action), make sure to cleanse gently
