There are so many things that we think we've used up, but look again there might be a second use we can get out of our things! Candle jars are often thrown out when they're used up, they're greasy and messy why would you want it? You can easily clean it with a few steps and you will have a free place to store bits and bobs and if you're lucky your jar will be pre-decorated with gorgeous labels!

Instructions

  1. When you candle is just about used up, light it - leave it lit until all the wax is melted. Blow out the flame - if you have an empty tin can carefully pour it into the can (if the candle jar is hot, use hotpads to pick it up). Do NOT pour the wax down the drain! While the jar is still warm pull out the wick anchor with your tweezers.

  2. If you don't have an empty tin can, wait until the wax hardens a bit but is still soft and wipe it out with the paper towels. Continue to wipe the jar getting as much wax out as you can.

  3. Various candle brands will use different adhesives to keep the wick anchor in place, some are easy to remove and some are more difficult. There are two different methods for removing the adhesive that I have found work well for most candle brands.

  4. Method 1: If the glue in your jar is pretty thick pour in a little rubbing alcohol and let it sit for a few hours - this will help release the grip of the glue and you should be able to peel it right up. Rinse the jar thoroughly and if there is any additional residue use your melamine sponge to remove the it.

  5. Method 2: If the glue in your jar it spotty, basically just a gunky mess, use the melamine sponge to remove it.

  6. Once you get all the glue out of your jar(s) give them a good wash with soap and water to remove any leftover smudges etc and dry. Now you can store beads, bobby pins, lip chaps....well you can store just about anything you have that needs a little organizing!
