Using the acrylic-paint markers, start drawing your design at the thicker part of the chopsticks (the area where your food won't touch). Begin by drawing lines in alternate colors.
To make polka dots or stripes with a color background, start by coloring in the background area with one color, wait for it to completely dry, and then draw the polka dots or stripes on top of the background with a contrasting color.
Continue working, mixing polka dots and stripes as you go, remembering to keep it simple. You can also add some food-related words if you wish.
When you’re done drawing, let the paint dry completely. Once the paint is thoroughly dry, wrap the unpainted part of the chopsticks with masking tape, leaving only the painted areas exposed. Spray a couple of coats of clear matte varnish to protect the painted areas.
To clean your painted chopsticks, gently rinse them with water only. NOTE: Since the chopsticks' paintable surface is so small, it's better to paint simple patterns instead of complicated designs. (I did stripes, polka dots and some simple words on mine.) Also, I chose to paint each chopstick in reversing colors from one another to add interest.
