My inlaws where coming into town and I wanted to greet them with a yummy and simple treat. But what??? So I searched my kitchen to see what I had lying around and found cookie mix, nutella, brownie mix, peanut butter and coconut! I didnt wanna make just regular ol cookies and I had just finished making fudge brownie cupcakes with a peanut butter center so... Hmmmm....Well Bam! Cookie bars with a Nutella frosting! That's super simple and sounds divine and sure enough they were a huge hit! If you love sweet treats as much as I do then you will adore these! (they look even more amazing in person, my camera phone isn't that great)

Instructions

  1. Small 2011 08 24 15 29 47 189 1314216751

Preheat Oven to 350 degrees F

  2. Small 2011 08 24 15 19 54 246 1314216809

    Gather all your ingredients together.

  3. Small 2011 08 24 15 27 03 380 1314216945

Mix softened butter, egg and cookie mix in a large bowl until all ingredients are mixed well and form a big cookie dough ball. This is the fun part! don't be afraid to get your hands dirty (you can lick them when your done)

  4. Small 2011 08 24 15 19 22 409 1314217029

Line Baking pan with Parchment paper. This makes it super easy to get the cookie bars out when they are done plus it leaves less dishes to do.

  5. Take your giant cookie dough ball and place it in the middle of your pan. Then push down and spread the dough out evenly with your fingers so that it fills the entire pan. (lick fingers once more!)

  6. Small 2011 08 24 16 05 08 806 1314217457

Put your cookies in the oven and cook for 35 minutes! I find that if you use a tube or tub of ready made cookie dough like Pillsbury it only takes about 13-16 minutes to bake. Basically if the cookies rise a little and look cooked and the edges are a tiny bit golden, they are ready! <~~~ Like this! Now its not time to pig out yet! They must cool completely before removing them from the pan. Be patient, they are totally worth the wait :)

  7. Once everything is cool remove cookies from pan by simply lifting it out by the edges of the parchment paper and placing on your work space. (easy peasy!)

  8. Small 2011 08 24 16 49 43 867 1314226190

Now its Nutella topping time! Take a butter knife or frosting spatula and spread a thin layer of the chocolate, hazelnut goodness evenly all over the top of your cookie bars.

  9. Small 2011 08 24 16 54 14 530 1314220266

Finally its the time you have all been waiting for :) Using a knife slowly cut the cookies into any size bars you desire.... Smell, Taste, Marvel and Enjoy!!!
