Pattern: Aran style cell phone cozy Yarn: Scheepjes Donna Time required: a couple of evenings After seeing a brother walking down the street in head to toe cougar print, I decided to get my hands on a camera-phone. My old one was do ok, texting was a pain but really there was nothing wrong with it but I wanted to be able to document the stuff I came across, like a basket full of live crab in a local Chinese grocery store. Anyway I decided to get make a cozy for it, first I found a Pop tart cozy, then I decided to make a afro motif version and finally I decided on an Aran style. I first made the chart on an excel sheet and then I transfered it on my PC. I also made the decision to make it from the bottom up using the Eastern cast on illustrated in the summer 07 issue of IK. Since there are very few knitting ressources in French, I made a tute for it (yes it's in English). For the bind off, I used the sewn bind off for it's stretchiness. All in all a quick and easy project, a pain to shoot because of the colour, of course natural sunlight was the best option. The chart starts out with a braid cable but that one doesn't show much, I suppose that in a lighter colour it would show better. Yarn A worsted weight yarn of 4-5 sts per inch will do Materials: A set of DPNs, 4 mm-US 6 (I used a set of four because that's what I had) Tapesty needle One stitch marker Cable hook Gauge: I didn't swatch. Since it's a quick project, just start over with a larger or small needle if it doesn't fit.

Instructions

  1. Small 17035

Edited to add: I forgot to add the cable hook for this pattern but considering the fact that not a single row goes by without a twist done, it's best you learn to make them without a cable hook. Using the oriental cast-on technique (or the figure-eight method), wrap the yarn 18 times around the needles. Place a stitch marker and knit the first round. On the next row follow the chart and separate the stitches on three or four needles depending on whether you have a set of 4 or 5 DPNs. For example, I had 13 stitches on the first needle, 10 on the second and the rest on my third needle. Continue working the chart until the end. Then do a sewn bind off. Weave in the loose yarn. That is all. Click chart below to enlarge
