    Step 2

Change to the second colour. You don't need to do anything tricky, just pretend you're still using the main colour.
You will secure the tail later.

    Row 3 (CC): Purl
Row 4 (CC): Repeat row 2

    Step 3

Repeat those 4 rows for as long as you want your book mark to be.
The colour changes will always be on the same end. Make sure that you keep the first stitch tight. This will help keep a nice edge to your book mark.

    Step 4

Once your book mark is long enough bind off all stitches.

Using the darning needle weave in the ends of the yarn.
If you want you can stop here and you have a perfectly good bookmark!

    Step 5

To attach and make the pom pom first cut about 2 meters of your yarns with both colours held together.

Then using your crochet hook pull all 4 strands of yarn through the peak of the chevron (which is your cast on edge).

    Step 6

Chain these 4 strands together until you have a 10 cm chain.

Pull the yarn through the loop and pull the entire length of yarn through to secure the chain.

    Step 7

Holding the chain between your index and middle finger, wrap the yarn around those two fingers.
    And then keep on wrapping!

    Step 8

Once you've used the majority of your yarn, pull the tail through your fingers.

A crochet hook can be really handy if you can't get your finger through.

    Step 9

Slip it off your fingers and tie the tail yarn around the centre.

Tie a knot to secure. This is what will hold you pompom together so make sure that it's strong!

  • How to make a bookmark. Chevron Pom Pom Book Mark - Step 10
    Step 10

Take your scissors and cut open the loops you created by wrapping the yarn around your fingers.

Do not cut the knot that you just made!

  • How to make a bookmark. Chevron Pom Pom Book Mark - Step 11
    Step 11

Trim the pompom by snipping at the ends until it looks fluffy.

If you do muck up the pompom, it's easy to start again. Just go back to step 5.
OR: if you just want to make a pompom book mark without the chevrons, start at step 5 and make a longer chain.

    And there you go!
